End-of-the-quarter is almost here! Thanks for checking through your child's grade folder that was sent home at mid-quarter, as well as PowerSchool. Please do the same thing for the end-of-quarter next week (folders should be signed and returned empty, except for ONE item to be displayed on our "Best Work Wall.") Also, if you or your child finds a mistake on PowerSchool or has a question, the work (with a note attached) can be returned in the folder so that it can be corrected. If your child needs to ask about his/her grades, have them ask me about that at snack break, end of class, or during journal time. In general, I encourage the Sea Turtles to approach me (or their other teachers) if they have questions about grades, missed work, and other concerns. Middle School is the perfect time to learn how to approach teachers and self-advocate!
It has been a busy quarter of learning routines, expectations, and middle school "stuff"! The Sea Turtles had an opportunity to use iMovie on the iPad to create mini-movies about Academic Language--what a fun way to show off our knowledge! In class, we recently finished Tuck Everlasting--what a delicious book! We have also used the Write Source book and the Literature book for lessons to support our persuasive writing genre. The District Writing Prompt (the "benchmark") will be this week--the Sea Turtles are ready to persuade! For vocabulary, we reviewed the parts of speech while learning the system of note-taking, reviewing, and quizzing. Last, many Sea Turtles are well on their way towards the 30 book challenge--way to go! Keep up that independent reading!
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns!
Happy Fall, Mrs. Mullaly
PS--the "No-Name" bin is quite full . . . a good place to find those "missing" or 0 assignments!
